About this listen

Throughout history, traditional cultures have recognized the role of storytelling in teaching values to children. Yet most educators have not fully capitalized on the connection between storytelling, folktales, and character education.

Based on the book by the same name, The Moral of the Story shows that character education, using storytelling and folktales from cultures around the world, can be fun, enjoyable, non-didactic, and remarkable effective; especially when enhanced by Bobby and Sherry Norfolk's energetic, charming interpretations. Included in The Moral of the Story are six fun, time-and-audience-tested tales accessible to listeners of all ages, from preschool to high school. Sit back, relax, and enjoy The Moral of the Story.

Editorial Reviews

The easiest way to turn a child off his or her moral development is to get preachy. Bobby and Sherry Norfolk know this, and that's why they forego the lectures and instead perform their Folktales for Character Development in schools all over the country. These stories teach values and virtues like perseverance and honesty though a memorable vehicle that no one can resist: narrative. The voices in this audiobook are tender, compassionate, and humorous. The Norfolks introduce each story in order to direct listeners to its ethical foundation. For example, the first story in the audio anthology is a "hip-hop version of an old Norwegian tale" that teaches the "importance of generosity, sharing, and the results of being a bully".
