essential reading
this is an essential subject for generally every one Indian and those interested in modern Indian history. Very interesting stories.
Only grouse with this book is the amount of repetition. If there was more effort in editing, then the story could be a lot shorter.

good but repetative
A very good book with a very good narration and concise too. But, it was clear that many facts,in those exact some words repeated many times. It would have been quite better if the, author would have at least ex tried to change the words or sentences. It appears that fact needed,to be related for the sake of complete history of each state, so I am OK with religion of facts but not sentences., Even for example author kept repeating the details of each committee every time he mentioned it. I would advise that it would have been better to organize the book in following way:
first, he should gave given the introduction of various acts and articles of constitution such as details about various classes of states A,B, C etc.
secondly, those stares who had common or intricately related stories of origin should have been discussed together in one chapter, such as himachal, Punjab and haryana.
thirdly, at last a brief timeline could have been given for each state indivizually.
