About this listen

They vow to love, honor, cherish...

With her signature spirit, Faith Merridew has left everything she's ever known for the man she thought was the love of her life. Instead he leaves her name - and dreams - in the dust. That is, until she crosses paths with Nicholas Blacklock, a Waterloo veteran, who offers to save her reputation with a marriage of convenience.

...and then get to know one other.

A hardened soldier, Nick hides a deadly secret - and tries to keep Faith at arm's length. But even though Nick can command legions of men with a word, his orders go sweetly ignored by his convenient bride. And as they come to know one another more deeply, she brings out in him things he thought dead: gentleness, laughter...and love....

Contains mature themes.

The characters

A ruined reputation, a reluctant proposal, and two guarded hearts — what begins as a practical arrangement slowly blossoms into something neither of them saw coming.

This is easily my favorite book in the Merridew Sisters series so far — and much of that comes down to the setting.

While I did enjoy the first two, The Perfect Stranger stood out with its refreshing change of pace. Instead of lavish ballrooms and high society gossip, this one gave us a more grounded, journey-based storyline — and it made the whole story feel more intimate and emotionally layered.

The character arcs felt deeper, the pacing more engaging, and both Faith and Nicholas came through as beautifully developed leads.

I’ve always appreciated how unique each of the Merridew sisters are, but seeing Faith — the quietest and most reserved of them all — grow into her own strength was genuinely moving. And her chemistry with Nicholas? Subtle, steady, and deeply satisfying.

The side characters were equally wonderful. Esmeralda, Faith’s travel companion, was an absolute delight, and Nicholas' two men added unexpected warmth and loyalty to the story.

Overall, The Perfect Stranger is a richly textured, heartfelt romance that balances tenderness and growth with just the right amount of tension. I can’t wait to dive into the next one in the series!

An enjoyable way to say au revoir to 2023!

While this was heavier on the suspense than the romance, I still really enjoyed it. I'm now looking forward to ringing in 2024 with the next one in this series ❤️
