About this listen

The Sands of Time is the tale of four nuns who are abruptly forced to flee the secure environment of their Spanish convent and face a hostile world they long ago abandoned. Suddenly these four women find themselves pawns in a violent struggle between the outlawed Basque underground movement, led by the charismatic Jaime Miro, and the Spanish army, under the command of the vengeful Colonel Ramon Acoca, who is bent on destroying all of them.

Megan, the orphan, would give anything to learn the identity of her parents. She fights against her overpowering attractions for the legendary and idealistic Jaime Miro. Lucia, the fiery Sicilian beauty, is wanted by the police, but risks her future and fortune for a dying revolutionary. Even the serenity of the convent cannot erase Graciela's nightmares of the past. How can she again face a world of carnal love? It is Teresa whose confused conscience finally drives her to seek help from Colonel Ramon Acoca, a terrible mistake that will betray her friends.

The Sands of Time is an unforgettable adventure, told against the backdrop of the fascinating countryside of Spain. In combines history, romance and suspense with the unexpected.

Good narration , but you have to turn the volume up to enjoy it, touch of sound effects in the beginning .

Two sides of violence and love

Quite engaging story arc along with some captivating characters but fails to amaze with a trite twist with a mixed conclusion. Overall neither riveting nor disappointing.

Gripping

This is an absolutely crisp fast paced gripping novel by Sidney Sheldon. The Sands of Time is a 1988 action novel. The novel by the world famous author, follows the adventures of four women who are forced to leave their Spanish convent for the outside world of threat, violence and passions; and two men who are pitted against each other in a fight to the death. The long ongoing struggle of the Basque separatist has been used by Sheldon to tell this story which he indeed tells so nicely. Worth reading.

incomplete

I have read the book years before . Many parts are left out . The complete book would have been better. Didn't realise this is the shorter version while buying it. Feeling a bit cheated

another good book from Sydney Sheldon

story is awesome it doesn't feel like lingering around one character only. Keeps the interest at peek.

Nicely narrated but sub-par characters

The story is set across decades and deals with the crucial points in the lives of the characters involved and set in the Basque revolution in Spain! However, the deliberate inclusion of sexuality in the past and motivations of almost all characters was not required as much as it was present. For a moment it felt that 'Desire' was the primary theme of the story, often shifting the focus away from the chase narrative that should have been the heart of the story!
The narration was quite good considering the author himself narrated the story and the resolution was anti-climactic in some respects. However, the wide differences between the worlds of secluded religious communities and the common mass at large was hinted at subtly, which was a plus!
Overall I would suggest this book as a good and medium-paced read, where you may expect some breaks in the time frame and a moderate number of characters to associate with, although most characters coalesce in their motivations into a homogeneous whole!

Sheldon is a master story teller

I had earlier read his books when I was in school and... that was a time when the eroticism on the pages seemed the prime force. Though the intrigue, the plot, the pace and everything else were equally superb. But now as I finished listening to this audio book, I believe this writer is way better than many others who think they have overtaken him. - Arvind Passey - Blog: www.passey.info

Parts of story missing

It is a very interesting story and I loved it the first time I read it. I was overjoyed when I came across the audio read by Sidney Sheldon himself, but sadly a few texts are missing it seems, or the story seems to have been censored, which is sad as important chunks relevant to the story are missing.

First book of author I read and got his fan

One of the best books I have heard.
Small stories with many examples of life, people, situations, consequences, God, love etc.
