About this listen

Random House presents the audiobook edition of Another Word For Murder by Anthony Horowitz, read by Rory Kinnear.

Death, deception, and a detective with quite a lot to hide: the second novel in the bestselling series starring Private Investigator Daniel Hawthorne.

‘You shouldn’t be here. It’s too late…

These were Richard Pryce's last words, overheard moments before the celeb divorce lawyer was bludgeoned to death with a £3,000 bottle of wine.

Strange circumstances pile up. Pryce was teetotal, so why this bottle? Why those words? Why did the killer paint a number on his wall? And, most importantly, which of the man’s many, many enemies did the deed?

Baffled, the police are forced to bring in Private Investigator Daniel Hawthorne and his sidekick, the author Anthony, who’s really getting rather good at this murder investigation business.

But as Hawthorne takes on the case with characteristic relish, it becomes clear that he, too, has secrets to hide. Anthony knows they must be exposed – even at the risk of death…

Hawthorne & Tony rocked it...

Very well written whodunnit murder mystery. I enjoyed the book more than the first one. I like the odd Hawthorne character and the writing style is great sometimes little funny (in a good way of course). It was going on smoothly how a typical detective novel goes but I loved the last chapter how things fall neatly once the murderer was found. The appendix was a nice touch too. Will look forward to more Hawthorne adventures :)
PS - I listened to the audiobook and the narrator Rory Kinnear has done an amazing job. :)

Crisp and Engaging

Thoroughly enjoyed my first Horowitz novel. Found it to be crisp, engaging with a nice flow. The voice modulations of the narrator added to the enjoyment

A good listen. Sometimes it feels like the first book but still very easy to continue. The narration is great

Engaging!

Read brilliantly! I love-hate Hawthorne and that I trust is the pivotal idea through Horowitz's DH series. Will listen to more.

Horowitz might rekindle the Cozy Mystery Genre

The Word is Murder was a fantastic read. The Sentence is Death continues the episodical storytelling brilliantly.

A lot of cozy mysteries these days tend to be around bookshops and baking, with highly emotional detectives bumbling about and stumbling into the solutions. Horowitz breaks this and goes back to Golden days of Peter Wimsey, Hercule Poirot and Roderick Allen. Characters are real and the setting is not some out-of-time quaint town in England. The way golden era detectives solved crimes in the context of the times, so do Hawthorne and Horowitz. It is very very interesting how Horowitz has been able to seamlessly weaved himself into the story.

If you've not read the first book, I would strongly recommend picking up both the books. This promises to be a long and interesting partnership

A Gift for Fan of Sherlock and Poirot

Its was fun and I like the way Anthony has referenced the two legends Arthur Conan and Agatha Christie.

You will find many intresting reference mentioned like the Sherlock defination of finding a truth, having said that, the plot was good and the end was great.
