Hey, I'm Jamie, a 29-year-old trans guy from the UK. I've been transitioning for 12 years now after realising I was trans (by accident!) at sixteen years old. I knew I was a boy since the age of four, but realised whilst growing up that I was different. It was only in my teens that I found the words to express who I was and what I needed to do. Since then, I've been on testosterone for more than a decade - I know, I can't believe it either - I've also had top and bottom surgery and legally changed my sex, so I know a few things about the transitioning process and being trans!

I want to welcome you to The T in LGBT where you can explore and learn about so many topics surrounding gender identity: realising you're trans, starting hormones, considering surgery, and everything in between. Whether you're questioning your own identity and are looking for advice on certain stages of transition, or whether you're wanting to learn about the trans experience to support someone or understand allyship, I hope this book can be your one-stop guide to everything trans related.

And don't just take my word for it either - this book is packed full of advice, tips, and the personal stories of a range of trans voices, because no one journey is the same.

Concise, poignant and simply comforting

I have followed Jamie for around a year, and since the day i watched the very first video from him i have been so inspired and moved by Jamie’s humility, resilience and kindness, I remember i binged watch ALL the video from their channel within a week.

I decided to access this book via audible simply because i love Jamie and Shaaba’s voice, they are so delicate and soft spoken and it felt very personal reading this part memoir part self help book, as someone who lives in India and is not out to anyone i feel very safe in the spaces both Jamie and Shaaba have created.

Honestly, i do believe i knew about all of the scientific information that was provided in context of Trans people but still i enjoyed every bit of information and it taught me how i can be a better ally in future. I truly believe this is a book every single person regardless of age should read! We are in a ever changing landscape of sexuality and gender studies and books like these are providing invaluable resources in a concise manner.

As a student of Public Health, as a future Medicine student and as a person who wants to make a difference by advocating for (and by providing- in the future) gender affirming care to trans youth who have recently become a sensationalised fluff piece for the media which has had severe repercussions for their healthcare accessibility , this book provided me all the tools i need to address these issues and be sensitive to their struggles.

The memoir part of this book was beautifully written and at times i found myself tearing up reading about all the things Jamie and Shaaba had to go through, as someone who has not identical but similar background i really resonated with that part, knowing both of yours stories and having witnessed your wedding online as audience it filled my heart with titillating joy.

Lastly i would like to extend my gratitude to Jamie and All the contributors because not only did the book address Jamie’s struggles but also depicted differing perspectives of different people with diverse identities, i was amazed by the inclusion of different stories and historical context as someone who belongs to the culture mentioned in the book it made me very happy.

Thank you Jamie for writing this book! I know we’ve never met but your generosity and kindness makes me feel like we’re family and i think that’s beautiful!
