About this listen

The new novel from the bestselling author of The Zoya Factor and Battle for Bittora.

In a sprawling bungalow on New Delhi's posh Hailey Road, Justice Laxmi Narayan Thakur and his wife, Mamta, spend their days watching anxiously over their five beautiful (but troublesome) alphabetically named daughters. Anjini, married but an incorrigible flirt; Binodini, very worried about her children's hissa in the family property; Chandrakanta, who eloped with a foreigner on the eve of her wedding; Eshwari, who is just a little too popular at Modern School, Barakhamba Road; and the judge's favourite (though fathers shouldn t have favourites): the quietly fiery Debjani, champion of all the stray animals on Hailey Road, who reads the English news on DD and clashes constantly with crusading journalist Dylan Singh Shekhawat, he of shining professional credentials but tarnished personal reputation, crushingly dismissive of her state-sponsored propaganda , but always seeking her out with half-sarcastic, half-intrigued dark eyes.

Spot-on funny and toe-curlingly sexy, Those Pricey Thakur Girls is rom-com specialist Anuja Chauhan writing at her sparkling best.

can't escape some good escapism

The story is very modern-fairytale like. And that's the good thing about the book. It gives you that opportunity to escape into another world that isn't too different from our own. Which makes it a nice, light listen. I would compare it to watching re runs of a sitcom we've watched a million times while doing mundane tasks like cleaning your cupboard. Which is what I like about this audiobook. There is something comforting about it.
The narration is what makes it difficult to listen to.
The narrator has clearly put in a lot of effort in making different voices to add personality to each character and help us visualise them. Usually when this is done it does help you stay engaged. But the voices given to the characters of this book is comical at most parts and made me feel like I was a child listening to Karadi tales or a Sharon Prabhakar cassette meant for kids.

I wish the same effort was put into a little research on how to pronounce some of the Hindi or Indian words. Basic names like "Sridhar" or even words like "biradari" were messed up.

Overall I quite enjoyed it. It was a good listen while commuting to work.

Good book, but below-average narration

This was the first Anuja Chauhan book I ever read, and I enjoyed it so much I read some others as well. The fun, light and witty dialogues and the uncomplicated story were the highlights of this book for me, but the narration could be said to be subpar at best. I kept cringing at multiple points, when the narrator managed to terribly mispronounce even some relatively common Hindi words, and the different voices she used for the male characters especially just made me laugh at completely inappropriate places! Overall, I think I would rather read the actual books instead of buying another audible book narrated by this person.

A Captivating Tale of Family, Love, and Laughter

Those Pricey Thakur Girls" is a delightful and engaging novel written by Anuja Chauhan. Set in the backdrop of 1990s Delhi, the story revolves around the five eccentric Thakur sisters - Debjani, Eshwari, Anjini, Binni, and Chhachhi. The Thakur family is known for their wealth, charm, and idiosyncrasies.

The book takes us on a journey through the lives of these spirited sisters as they navigate family drama, romance, and societal expectations. Chauhan's writing style is witty, humorous, and filled with vivid descriptions that bring the characters and their surroundings to life.

The author skillfully weaves together elements of love, humor, and family dynamics, creating a heartwarming and entertaining read. Each sister has a distinct personality, and their interactions with each other and the world around them are both relatable and amusing.

While the book primarily focuses on the Thakur sisters, it also explores themes of class divide, gender roles, and the changing dynamics of Indian society. Chauhan expertly balances these deeper issues with light-hearted moments, keeping the narrative engaging and enjoyable.

"Those Pricey Thakur Girls" is a delightful mix of romance, family drama, and comedy, making it a perfect read for those looking for a charming and entertaining story. Chauhan's writing style and well-developed characters make this book an absolute delight from start to finish.

Good Book but nothing that special.

It's a good Book but I had more expectations with this Book after reading Club you to Death by the same author.

Predictable storyline and painstaking slow

Please done buy this on the the audiable app. The book is completely predictable, painstakingly slow. I decided to finish it as I had spent 700 odd rs on this.
