About this listen
Peri, a wealthy Turkish housewife, is on her way to a dinner party at a seaside mansion in Istanbul when a beggar snatches her handbag. As she wrestles to get it back, a photograph falls to the ground - an old Polaroid of three young women and their university professor. A relic from a past - and a love - Peri had tried desperately to forget. The photograph takes Peri back to Oxford University, as an 18-year-old sent abroad for the first time and to her dazzling, rebellious professor and his life-changing course on God. It also takes her to her home with her two best friends, Shirin and Mona, and their arguments about Islam and femininity and, finally, to the scandal that tore them all apart.

Absolutely Gripping!
Shafank is a storyteller like no other! Insightful historical references, brilliant characters, and plot twists to keep you sitting in the car long after Pune reached your destination just to hear what happens! Fantastic novel!

Leaves you with questions, but that's the point!
Not as tight and gripping as Shafak's other works, but an engaging listen nevertheless. Peri's curious confusion strikes a chord. As always, love Dunmore's narration, though the Indian accent is not anywhere near (haha)

beyond words
It seemed as if someone has described me and almost my story, a tear fell from my eye...as the last sentence was narrated. Thanks Elif

The narration that makes the difference.
One of the most effective narrations i have heard so far. the story keeps you going, the characters so real. It questions your beliefs. We all live a part of every character in the book some time in our life. overall a beautiful experience.
