Publisher's Summary
We have all heard the tale of Vikram and Vetaal.
But not like this.
On Mahashivratri, when the moon casts a crimson glow and bats scurry across the night sky, the Vetaals appear from the shadows to take revenge against an ancient custom led by a sadistic demigod.
The only one who stands between them and the future of humankind is Vikramaditya, the king of Avantika. But to battle against these dark forces, he needs an ally. An ally who whispers with blood between his teeth, the one who speaks in riddles—the original Veetal. Will Vikramaditya be able to convince the Veetal to help him defeat this unbeatable enemy?
Listen to Kevin Missal's reimagining of an ancient tale to find out. This is a story that will make your heart race and keep you hooked till the very end.

The book is good, narration could've been better
I'm listening to this audiobook after finishing the Kalki Trilogy by the same author. And while I would like to admit that I found the writing style flat and rushing, I also cannot deny the fact that the author has improved a lot in the process, page by page and book by book.
This book is an interesting take on the childhood classic Vikram-Betaal. The characters could be more three-dimensional and the horror elements could be fleshed out more. It's a fun ride overall.
Coming to narration, audible did a very bad job with the sound effects and mixing, the narrator was rushing through the pages and I found it hard to finish the book, not because of the writing, but solely due to bad narration. I'm glad that the other books from Kevin Missal were narrated normally without sound effects and heavy voices and noices.

twist to the original story?
the way the story is written felt flat to me. the characters are not introduced well and you are expected to know everything about them in the first place. the sentences used are somewhat simple and almost feels too childish. Even the story development is weird, for example over of the characters is said to be 14 but was fascinated with cutting up bodies. this is clearly psychopathic behavior but is shown as a curious doctor to be.
the main villain is said to be just and a follower of Shiva and protector of the innocent but kills all unborn children in the entire city. so the characterization was not accurate.
voice acting: some of the voices are over done like the vetal voice. I feel the lack of empathy and thus am unable to connect to the characters. There were some pronunciation errors but it did not hinder my understanding.
overall I'm disappointed in the story line and characterization of the people from a classic tale.

The build up is good but the climax is weak. Feels like it was closed in a haste

The story was unique
Story was unique and original. Well written. The Indian part was too protracted and could be shortened. Female voice artists could be used

The very same duo with a twist
New twist to the story of the famous old duo which has captivated Indian minds since 11th century. Yes, Vikram and Vetaal first appeared in Vetaal Pacchisi - a Sanskrit saga written by poet Somdev. We see many new characters like Kalidas, Bhuvi making an appearance. However the main Vetaal could have got a little more story time. Also the stories of Vetaal and his subsequent questions seemed rather hurried and cropped making the end rather incomplete.
Great job by the voice modulation team.
Good for those who want to meet their childhood heroes - Vikram and Vetaal once again with a new story.

First Audibook
It was my first Audibook and I had a great experience with It. The performance is clearly very good, and as Always Kevin Missal Sir had done a great job in writing the story. Worth listening to.
