Story
Spanning the years 1900 to 1977, The Covenant of Water is set in Kerala, on South India’s Malabar Coast, and follows three generations of a family that suffers a peculiar affliction: in every generation, at least one person dies by drowning—and in Kerala, water is everywhere. At the turn of the century, a twelve-year-old girl from Kerala’s long-existing Christian community, grieving the death of her father, is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time.

Story
Yoshitaka, who was about to leave his marriage and his wife, is poisoned by arsenic-laced coffee and dies. His wife, Ayane, is the logical suspect—except that she was hundreds of miles away when he was murdered. The lead detective, Tokyo Police Detective Kusanagi, is immediately smitten with her and refuses to believe that she could have had anything to do with the crime. His assistant, Kaoru Utsumi, however, is convinced Ayane is guilty. While Utsumi's instincts tell her one thing, the facts of the case are another matter.

Story
Piranesi lives in the House. Perhaps he always has. In his notebooks, day after day, he makes a clear and careful record of its wonders: the labyrinth of halls, the thousands upon thousands of statues, the tides that thunder up staircases, the clouds that move in slow procession through the upper halls. On Tuesdays and Fridays Piranesi sees his friend, the Other. At other times he brings tributes of food to the Dead. But mostly, he is alone.

An enjoyable and captivating story
My first audible book. Went into looking at the name and cover. Came out of it with flooded thoughts and feelings. Been a while a story has had this effect on me. Do give it a read. It’s worth every word.

An absolute favourite
A perfect read that makes take a step back and breathe in this fast paced world I would say. And I loved it because there was a book shop involved. And it also made me wonder why even though reading books was one of the most favourite things in life, never did I think of owning or opening a bookshop. And that made me wonder how biased and poorly informed we are when it comes to choosing our professions. The book also talks of how we are mostly living to meet the expectations of the society and how that burns us out after a point.

The message is perfect for this generation and that’s what we need to slow down
It was a good and comforting listen. To know that burnout and anxiety is what most people are facing everyday gives the actual reflection of today’s society. The message is clear that if we ignore the signals that our body is sending us, we are in deep trouble
