About this listen
Visceral, disturbing and chilling in its realism, World War Z is perhaps the most famous work from the world's foremost expert on our undead counterparts. Paired with the equally gripping The Zombie Survival Guide, there is no better preparation for the inevitable uprising.
"The end was near." Voices from the Zombie War.
The Zombie War came unthinkably close to eradicating humanity. Max Brooks, driven by the urgency of preserving the acid-etched firsthand experiences of the survivors from those apocalyptic years, traveled across the United States of America and throughout the world, from decimated cities that once teemed with upwards of thirty million souls to the most remote and inhospitable areas of the planet.
He recorded the testimony of men, women, and sometimes children who came face-to-face with the living - or at least the undead - hell of that dreadful time. World War Z is the result. Never before have we had access to a document that so powerfully conveys the depth of fear and horror, and also the ineradicable spirit of resistance, that gripped human society through the plague years.

Story
A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Story
It was to be the war to end all wars, and it began at 11:15 on the morning of June 28, 1914, in an outpost of the Austro-Hungarian Empire called Sarajevo. It would officially end nearly five years later. Unofficially, however, it has never ended: Many of the horrors we live with today are rooted in the First World War. The Great War left millions of civilians and soldiers maimed or dead. It also saw the creation of new technologies of destruction: tanks, planes, and submarines; machine guns and field artillery; poison gas and chemical warfare.

Any apocalyptic scenario can fit here
I've read this book twice and now I heard it on audible.
Love how real the different stories of people's experiences feel when this end of the world scenario takes place.
What is amazing is that you can swap a zombie apocalypse with a pandemic, a nuclear holocaust or any other apocalyptic scenario, and this story would hold and still feel real.
Amazingly, I heard this as Covid spread around the world and so many facts in the book like where it came from, Israels experience, India's chaos and more were exactly the same!
I'm sure I'll be back to listen to this again.

A nice ride
The exploration of the effects of the Zombie apocalypse as a series of interviews was a brilliant idea! Except for the very fake Indian accent, the narration did a pretty good job!

Excellent satire
You know the onion? With all those satirical news. It’s like that. I liked it, but it’s almost like a documentary. So, I had stop and listen over many days. Also, some people complain about the Indian accents. Obviously they have used American Indians, but I don’t mind it. Voice acting, including Indian voices, is great.

Weird Indian accents
Look the story is great and all but the Indian accents in this book is borderline offensive. What is up with this? I wish this could be changed.
This one thing spoils the whole narration for me.
