About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Two friends. Ten summer trips. Their last chance to fall in love.

Twelve summers ago: Poppy and Alex meet. They hate each other and are pretty confident they'll never speak again.

Eleven summers ago: they're forced to share a ride home from college, and by the end of it, a friendship is formed. And a pact: every year, one vacation together.

Ten summers ago: Alex discovers his fear of flying on the way to Vancouver. Poppy holds his hand the whole way.

Seven summers ago: they get far too drunk and narrowly avoid getting matching tattoos in New Orleans.

Two summers ago: it all goes wrong.

This summer: Poppy asks Alex to join her on one last trip. A trip that will determine the rest of their lives.

You and Me on Vacation is a love story for fans of When Harry Met Sally and One Day. Get ready to travel the world, snort with laughter and - most of all - lose your heart to Poppy and Alex.

I am in love with my best friend

I think one trope that I can never get enough of is when two best friends turn into lovers. It's like one of my favourite plots for romance stories. Harry and sally, Monica and Chandler.

I thought that the trope best friends turns into lovers is a cliche and I wouldn't enjoy it much. But little did I know That I have always been a hardcore fan of all kinds of cliche romances.

If I could summarize this whole book with a song then it would be "That way" by Tate McRae. I loved it so much that I wish that it would turn into a movie. The whole book gives out such awesome spring/summer book vibes because every year both lead characters go on summer vacations to different destinations which makes it so much interesting and fun.

Sometimes the sweetest love stories are ones that start with a friendship but now everyone is so afraid of getting friend-zoned.

Another notion that has been promoted by all romance stories is the idea of opposite attract and this novel happens to agree with it. Three major notion that makes a story worth hanging onto 1)best friends turn into lovers.

2)going on vacations

3)opposite attract.

and this book has every one of them. Both Alex (male) and poppy (female) protagonist are so well written that they drive the story pretty smooth. And they make you feel as if you're going on a vacation with them. Anyone who is fan of cliche chick flicks would love the atory too much.

Amazing narration, easy to follow

Emily Henry books are adorable. I am not that fan of 'friends to lovers' trope. also their falling out for years was unbelievable.

Much Mush

An engaging tale of friendship and love. The characters are well defined and so human that it feels like someone from our own life. There are moments beautifully woven together like pearls on a string which make you laugh, cry and even gasp at times. A must read, especially for the eternal romantics.

Enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

Best friends to lovers troupe is predictable, messy and not much fun.

But the way this was done was so different, so good. And it was narrated so well, I liked it.

Well written and nuanced

I love how all of Emily Henry characters are so well written and nuanced. It's never just a boy and a girl falling in love. In this book, it's how two incompatible but old college best friends make each other the happiest, even though they have very different passions and personalities.

Since it's a romance book, it delves into the 10% possibility that a boy-girl friendship will eventually have - the what if. I would love to read a book by her which is about the other 90%, just a couple of best friends breaking the stereotype that a boy and a girl can never just be friends. I think Emily Henry would kill it as a contemporary or a literary writer.

I also love the realness of all her characters. The adventurous thrill of frugal travelling. How professional burnout could be a result of lack of ambition, not just stress. How millennials might feel purposeless if they've already achieved all their career goals and realize their passion has changed. She captured the "millennial ennui" beautifully.

won't take this on my vacation

Two people with lot of past baggage and a long friendship go on a budget holiday. The girl, despite being successful and having a loving family, is a mess and feels insecure about herself. The guy, sorted and level headed, is pulled into her mess and ruins some important relationships in his life. They are both a bit guilty and hesitant to talk it through, so they plan a holiday instead. The budget holiday also turns into a mess gradually.... and so does my reading experience. I read through a similar plot in another novel, but the narrative was better and the ending wonderful. The last 4 chapters were unnecessary. Overall, don't take this on your vacation.

Owmahgawd!its layke a reesewhitherspoon mouvae!

Omg! While I don’t discount the fact that writing a long essay is tiresome and takes effort, I apologise but this was horrible, each line was predictable and the characters stiff as boards,
Sorry - but lower than young adult , it’s a book for preteens! Sigh
