猫好きの人には身につまされる内田百けんの「ノラや」シリーズ。百鬼園と号する百けん先生のペットロスを描く。
自宅の庭で野良猫が産んだ子猫の一匹にご飯をやるうちに、すっかり百鬼園夫婦になついてしまった。野良猫だからノラと命名。気難しい百鬼園先生は、ノラの可愛さにはまってしまい、寿司屋の卵焼きなど好物を与え、温かい風呂槽の上にノラのために座布団を用意するほど溺愛する。ところが、ノラが二度目のさかりを迎えた３月末。出ていったまま帰らない。一晩待っても、１週間待っても１ヶ月たっても戻らない。百先生は、心配で可哀想でおろおろするばかり。時には号泣し、日々泣き暮らす。遂には、折込み広告やら新聞広告まで出したが、はかばかしい情報は得られない。「ノラや、お前はもう帰って来ないのか・・・」百鬼園先生の涙は止まらない。
