Dinosaurs' Final Moments: HOW Exactly Did Dinosaurs Go Extinct? | Podcast

Written by: Sciencecast .
  • Summary

  • Once upon a time, the Earth was a planet vastly different from what it is today, hosting enormous and magnificent creatures roaming its vast plains. The reptiles we know today as "dinosaurs" evolved initially about 230 million years ago as a subgroup of reptiles and ruled this planet for roughly 160 million years until approximately 66 million years ago. For comparison, just 500,000 years ago, we humans did not exist. 10 million years ago, hominins such as Homo habilis or Australopithecus, that is, humanoids, did not even exist! 55 million years ago, there wasn't a single large-brained mammal called "primate" on Earth. So, the reign of the dinosaurs was one of the longest stories in the history of vertebrates. The dinosaurs didn't have a space program. Therefore, one day, they failed to notice a giant asteroid veering from its orbit in the outer reaches of the Asteroid Belt and heading towards Earth, and naturally, they couldn't take any precautions against it. This is the most detailed story ever told about the last moments of the dinosaurs.
