From the July/August edition of National Geographic History magazine. The title is, " Cabeza de Vaca: Explorer, Survivor, Historian", by Jose Garrido Palacios. His attitude toward the indigenous was conciliatory and diplomatic, at odds with the militants in the local military and civil administration.
