After surviving a major heart attack, Ralph retraces his journey from his childhood in small towns across Missouri to Mount Pleasant, IA. A former high school athlete, he enlisted in the service and later earned a spot in the Northeast Missouri Athletic Hall of Fame due to his outstanding athletic achievements. His sports career eventually led him to become a basketball coach. Despite his passion for coaching, he faced financial constraints and relocated to Illinois. After coaching at Alton HS, he settled in Streator, IL, where he has lived for over 50 years.

In college, he met his wife, Charlotte, who had noticed him from afar. Throughout his coaching career, he experienced memorable victories and painful defeats, eventually transitioning to become the executive director of the local YMCA. He played a pivotal role in fundraising efforts to revitalize the YMCA, which now stands as a prominent community hub. As a tribute to his contributions, the pickleball courts were named after him.

In retirement, he enjoys winters in Florida, where he spends his days walking along the beach and playing pickleball. His journey is marked by the remarkable story of survival against all odds after his major heart attack, a testament to his resilience and determination.
