    Aug 11 2022

In 2006, the story of Prince Manvendra Singh Gohil’s coming out made headlines in India and around the world. His effigies were burnt in Rajpipla, where the traditional society was shocked and publicly jeered and heckled. His family accused him of bringing dishonor and disowned him soon after, but Prince Manvendra felt a sense of inner freedom in which he was released from a “prison within a prison within a prison."

Manvendra Singh Gohil is the Crown Prince of Rajpipla, an erstwhile princely State of Gujarat and the 39th direct descendant of the 650-year-old Gohil Dynasty. He is the first member of a royal family to openly come out as gay to the world. He has been interviewed by Oprah Winfrey several times and has been featured on the show "Keeping Up with the Kardashians."

Prince Manvendra is the Chairperson and Co-founder of Lakshya Trust dedicated towards Empowerment of the LGBT community. He is also the Brand Ambassador of AIDS Healthcare Foundation India Cares, the world's oldest and largest non-profit organization for HIV testing and treatment.

He has recently been appointed on the Advisory Board of Eyes Open International an American non-profit organization for addressing issues on Human Trafficking. More at https://www.lakshya-trust.org.
