Hailing from Mint Hill, NC, dd's BLUES, better known these days as little dennyboy, has been playing music his entire life, beginning with elementary school band,  Army Band, all the way into his late 70's. Now, a local song writer, he loves recording sentimental alto sax ballads in his home recording studio. His twin ladies, 'big toot and baby toot' have backed his act since early 1960. He continues to arrange/record classical  beach tunes, instrumentals, country sax and even some bluegrass/southern gospel. He does it for fun, but some of his material gained a bit of recognition. In 2013, he wrote "Bain Academy Boogie" and "Mint Hill Rocks" for the Mint Hill Bain Daze celebrations.  In 2016 he penned "Queen City blues", a recording featuring Michael Wayne Deese and Van Coble. It reached #2 on John Hooks Boogie and Blues Chart of beach music fame. Lately he just finished "I Love Mint Hillians, (always have and I always will)".  It will be published soon as a vocal duet.
Since the early 60's, little dennyboy uniquely  performed on both alto/tenor saxes together in harmony, plus vocal duets with the Fabulous Plaids from Charlotte. One of his favorite Plaid  instrumentals he loved  playin'  twins on since 1962, was called 'Water Melon Man'.  The Plaids were  early converts, in 1959, from rock-a-billy into R&B, and were best known for their 'Plaid Power'. Many times you could hear a pin drop in a song break, freezing their audiences in place as 5 band players improvised from stage together as they went, talking among one another in what the music folks call vibes. Carrying the audiences with them along with their own excitement together.
After retiring from the Plaids, Denny started up 'dd's BLUES', a one man band that performed lead sax melodies over traditional sound tracks from the Platters and other beach music pioneers. Being a winemaker that received his degree in winemaking and grape farming from Surry Community College in 2012, he made connections with statewide vineyards, performing to crowds back then before the beach music genre took over.
So, @ 80, he just published his first podcast and received his new rss.com feed, and plans to compose both mp3 tunes and written articles about his music history, primarily about the blues; all kinds of blues, country, R&B, jazz and bluegrass. Denny has played all styles over a lifetime, and enjoys any genre, including classical, that's performed well or recorded properly.
Most importantly, he thanks the Great I Am for gifting his natural talent at birth. In response to so many folks coming to the stages those many years to ask how he plays twins, 'big toot and baby toot', together.  He did not lie, as he explained that many times it came through him from that greater power, and even admits sometimes, he just sat back and watched the Lord walk all over his sax keys for him. Many times as Denny performed with the late and great Windell Cunningham around the QC at retirement homes, those older citizens got so much joy, never seeing a performer playing twins together. "Just a few minutes of fun for Windell & I, those folks returned to us 4 times over", their eagerness just for a few moments of pure joy in their lives once more.  Somehow, they just knew that talent came through us to them too!  "Those events became so special to Windell & I".                 Contact  'dd's BLUES' , little dennyboy,  directly at caddlco@aol.com
