No easy task when one of her afternoon tea guests is poisoned. Is it a coincidence when another guest is found dead from poison? Scotland Yard steps in. While Evie trusts they will find the killer, she takes exception when the finger of suspicion is pointed at her.

When Evie Parker, Countess of Woodridge, decides to spend a day in London unaccompanied she has no idea she will encounter the one person she has hoped to spend the rest of her life avoiding. There's no escaping Isabel Fitzpatrick's exuberant energy and desire to show off her new husband. However, the encounter sets off a series of events and brings trouble right to Evie's doorstep.

Evie's life is thrown into turmoil when reality begins to imitate fiction, and Henrietta, the dowager countess of Woodridge becomes the prime suspect in a villager's death.

An invitation from a hotel owner to stay at his new seaside hotel provides Evie, Countess of Woodridge, with the perfect opportunity to fulfill her maid's dream of vacationing by the seaside. However, the prospect of spending an entire week strolling along the pier makes Evie realize she is no longer cut out for a life of leisure. Clearly, she is missing the exhilaration she experienced during the last few murder cases she had become involved in. When a young woman dies right outside their hotel, Evie finds the perfect opportunity to distract herself.

Evie, the Countess of Woodridge, is hosting a house party to celebrate the end of summer. Some of the guests include a famous actress trying to revive her career, a theater critic renowned for his biting reviews, a newspaper owner in need of a scandal, and more than a few guests with motives for murder. Evie could not have hoped for a livelier group of guests to amuse her granny, Toodles, who has finally arrived for a visit and is eager for some entertainment. However, Evie gets more than she bargained for when one of the guests dies right before their eyes.

Seth, the seven-year-old Earl of Woodridge, is spending Christmas at Halton House and he would like nothing better than to help trim the tree with the Christmas decorations his father had carved for him. But no one has any idea where these decorations are. Determined to make the young Earl's wish come true, Evie and her bodyguard, Tom Winchester, set out to a nearby village where the young Earl had lived in the hope that they might recover the lost decorations. They find themselves among a group of people who might all be suspects in the murder of a local villager.

Evie, Countess of Woodridge, is on a mission to rescue her favorite modiste from the consequences of an unfavorable review. Her quest is a timely diversion as her granny, Toodles, appears to be suffering from a case of restlessness. All goes well until Evie's public clash with the journalist responsible for the article is followed by the journalist's death. The circumstances are suspicious and the police is warning Evie to stay away from the case. While she is happy to comply with the detective's request, the killer has other ideas and goes one step too far . . .

A telegram arrives at Halton House, sending the dowagers and Toodles on a mad race to rescue Evie from the clutches of an impostor. Unaware of the chaos and panic reigning at Halton House, Evie finds herself entangled in a web of deceit and dealing with Tom Winchester's odd behavior. He is keeping secrets and every time she tries to get answers from him, he manages to change the subject or worse . . . something else happens.

Henrietta, the Dowager Countess of Woodridge, is on a mission to find Tom Winchester a title. Meanwhile, Evie, the Countess of Woodridge, has been offered a partnership. However, she has reservations about her abilities to juggle the business of being a lady detective and all her other responsibilities. When she finds herself in the midst of an investigation to discover the author of some threatening letters, all her relatives become involved, in the process, mastering the art of observation. Little do they know they are about to uncover a mystery hidden within a mystery.

Halton House is experiencing an upheaval of mammoth proportions and Evie, the Countess of Woodridge, finds herself in the middle of everyone's squabbles and odd behavior. She hopes a change of scenery will provide a diversion while she and Tom Winchester investigate a case of some missing items, but havoc has followed her to the hunting lodge. Instead of dealing with one mystery, she and Tom are caught up in a multitude of them.

Lady Woodridge and Tom Winchester offer the new Lady Evans their support during her first foray into local society. To their surprise, Evie's reputation as a lady detective has preceded her, and she is engaged to solve the mystery of a theft.
