Newly widowed, Macy Garson is doing her best to live a simple and secure life that her beloved Jake would have been proud of. She loves her volunteer work at the Happy Paws dog sanctuary, but if she doesn't find a way to make money, and fast, she may not be able to keep up with her mortgage payments in a month or so.

While she's still lonely after the loss of her beloved husband, Macy is trying her best to make friends and fit in with the locals in the small Florida town that is now her home, but so far, aside from her animal shelter buddies, she's not having much luck. Life is becoming more routine as she figures out how to exist as a new widow, but it gets turned upside down when she makes a horrifying discovery while walking one of the shelter dogs. Local law enforcement seems to be gunning for Macy, a newcomer, and she finds herself in a sticky situation.
