Dr. Barbara Wixom is a Principal Research Scientist at the MIT Sloan Center for Information Systems Research (CISR), founder of the MIT CISR Data Research Advisory Board, and faculty director for the MIT Sloan online program Data Monetization Strategy. Since 1994, Dr. Wixom has explored how organizations effectively deliver value from their data assets. She is an academic scholar, textbook author, global speaker as well as an award-winning teacher and case writer. In 2021, Dr. Wixom won the AIS Outreach Practice Publication Award for her data monetization content, and in 2017 she was honored with the Hugh J. Watson Award for her data and analytics field contributions. Prior to joining MIT CISR, Barbara enjoyed a fifteen-year academic career at the University of Virginia.
