Can you honestly describe your team as being effective and high performing - and capable of taking on big, bold goals and major challenges? Or is there room for and need for improvement? When I entered the working world in the 1990’s, the leadership model was based on the carrot and stick approach and this existed in a numbers-driven culture defined by an arbitrary win/lose finish line. I came to realise that this model was flawed because it worked for some but not for everyone. It became clear to me that this old model needed to be consigned to the scrapheap and to be replaced by an approach that puts humanity at its core. I came to realise that successful and thriving high-performance teams put people first and the results follow. This led me to rewrite the essential components of what it takes to build effective and thriving high-performance teams in my book Be More Human – Rethinking the Rules of High-Performance Teamwork. The 20 principles I arrived at represent a universal set of tools and skills that once mastered can be used to great effect to build successful teams in all parts of our lives. What is the end game? It’s about learning to work more effectively together, about creating teams that deliver success – however you define that. Underpinning everything is how best to create effective high-perfomance teams, where each person has a role to play, is listened to and is valued. Never forget that it is humans who sit at the heart of every team. Be more human, put people first and the results will follow. In my Keynote Talks, I draw on my 30+ years of experience in building teams to achieve big, bold goals. I started as an entrepreneur at age 14 and have built and led teams in Global Corporations, in Start-ups and in High Growth Businesses. I've also twice built teams to sail around the world.

 I spent 10+ years in Professional Services, including 5 years at KPMG Corporate Finance, and did several stints as a CFO with other businesses. I've built multiple successful businesses from scratch, including one I sold for a 7 figure sum while circumnavigating the globe with my family.
