Cathy is the lead faculty member at the award-winning Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship (CASE) at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, where she has taught since 2007. She is an adjunct professor, founded and directs the CASE i3 Initiative on Impact Investing, and co-leads the Social Entrepreneurship Accelerator at Duke (SEAD), a $10 million USAID-funded global health accelerator, in collaboration with Duke Medicine’s International Partnership for Innovative Healthcare Delivery (IPIHD) and the Duke Global Health Institute. She has been an active pioneer, educator and consultant for 25 years in the fields of impact investing and for-profit and nonprofit social entrepreneurship. She helped develop the standards for B Corporations, taught at Columbia Business School for a decade, and managed impact investments at Flatiron Partners and the Markle Foundation. She has worked with hundreds of social entrepreneurs, and has performed in-depth studies of scaling strategies, business models for impact enterprises, and impact investment vehicles and structures for foundations, private funds, development finance institutions and banks. As part of her role at CASE, she also coordinates global research for data from $4.5 billion of impact assets under management and from over 11,000 impact entrepreneurs in 29 countries. She holds an MBA from Columbia Business School, a BA from the University of Virginia, and was the sole academic member invited to sit on the US National Advisory Board for the G8 Taskforce on Social Impact Investing established in June 2013 by UK Prime Minister David Cameron.
