The Laptev Virus is now available in Audio version! And if you loved The Laptev Virus, Sarah Spallanzani's adventures continue in The Cobra Effect. I love writing about the big social issues and about science. In The Laptev Virus I was able to do both, putting the characters in positions where difficult ethical decisions needed to be made. The melting Arctic ice and global climate change are subtexts for the novel. In the Cobra Effect, the big issue of plastic pollution in the ocean is tackled, along with corporate greed and a healthy explanation of GMOs and whether we should be afraid of them. In an ideal world, this novel would be used in the high school or university classroom in order to make science concepts more accessible while also exploring other themes like ethics and history. To that end I created a Teacher's Guide as a companion to The Laptev Virus. This guide is also nice for book club discussions. A Cricket of a Girl is my newest novel. It is a coming-of-age story that will keep you turning the pages as you travel with Sesi, a spunky young woman from El Salvador, who narrates her adventures as she makes her way to the capital city. I love meeting with Book Clubs and am available by cell phone or Skype to connect with groups anywhere in the world! Please contact me via my blog, www.christyesmahan.com or my Goodreads or Facebook pages for further information. Awards: THE LAPTEV VIRUS is a WINNER of the 2015 National Indie Excellence Awards! SINCO, the second novel in the Cantabria American School series was a finalist for the International Latino Book Awards, 2016.
