Deesha Dyer is an award-winning strategist, on-the-ground community organizer, executive operations expert and former hip-hop journalist. She served as the White House social secretary during the Obama administration, a role she worked up to from a White House internship in 2009 at age 31 as she was just starting community college. She is currently the founder and CEO of social impact agency, Hook & Fasten and co-founder of beGirl.world Global Scholars, which diversifies study abroad. In 2019, Deesha was a resident fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School where she curated and taught a study course called, Imposter to Impact. She has been named to Marie Claire’s new guard of women changing the world, the Root’s most influential African-Americans and profiled in Women Who Run the White House by Essence. Deesha is an in-demand speaker who has graced stages around the world with her authentic, inspiring and entertaining storytelling. She's been featured in Vogue, Travelnoire, and The Washington Post and written for Oprah Daily, Glamour and Lonely Planet. Deesha was most recently awarded the Women of Excellence Award by the city of Washington, DC. and lives in Maryland.
