Dr. Corey Yeager is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, at the doctoral level, focusing his therapeutic practice primarily serving the African American community. Yeager holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Metropolitan State University, a Master of Art degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Argosy University and a PhD from the University of Minnesota. His research emphasis centers on better understanding the plight of African American relationships, while educating service providers to utilize the family system context while facilitating meaningful change in both their personal and professional lives.
Dr. Yeager has engaged a wide range of clientele in his therapeutic endeavors. As a school-based mental health provider, Yeager worked tirelessly as a therapist in the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center, through the Minneapolis Public Schools. In this work, Yeager employs an eclectic style of therapeutic orientations, as to cater his therapy to the unique needs of students, players, families, and organizations. His cornerstone mode of therapy is steeped in Trauma-based/informed care coupled with a narrative approach. Allowing his clients and the families from which they come to remain the experts in their lives. Dr. Yeager operates his organization, HarmonyRoad, LLC, within a number of Minneapolis Public Schools, Anoka-Hennepin and St. Paul Public School systems.
In his previous role as the Director of Educational Equity, for the Office of Black Male Student Achievement, within the Minneapolis Public Schools, Dr. Yeager was unwavering in his assault on the “perceived” achievement gap for African American males. He believes that African American males do not face an achievement gap but rather a relationship and opportunity gap. All stakeholders seeking social justice and real sustainable change must address this persistent gap.
In his current role, Dr. Yeager is working within the merging of his two passions, athletics, and therapy. Yeager is the team therapist and Life Coach for the Detroit Pistons, within the NBA. In this role Dr. Yeager supports the entire organization from a systemic and contextual stance. He supports all players, coaching staff, and front office leadership in his conscientious relational fashion. Dr. Yeager employees the conceptualization of role clarity in his organizational endeavors to build cohesiveness in a deep and intentional way.
Finally, Dr. Yeager works diligently to facilitate the advancement of meaningful dialogue surrounding the subject of race and racism. It is in this culminating work that he finds his passion. He has done a vast array of facilitating these “courageous conversations” across the country, finding his way from the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) to NYU to Detroit working within organizational systems to assess and address the climate and culture of these large systemic spaces. Dr. Yeager was a featured expert in Oprah and Price Harry’s critically acclaimed documentary series “The Me You Can’t See” on AppleTV+. Additionally, Dr. Yeager is engaged in collaboration with USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, Saint Cloud State University, The Smithsonian Institute, The Gersh Agency, Geffen Academy at UCLA, Lola Red and Duke University Athletics.
