Dr. Sarah McKay is a neuroscientist and science communicator, adept at making brain science accessible for enhancing health, wellbeing and performance. Sarah was born in Christchurch, New Zealand, and now lives on Sydney's Northern Beaches. An Oxford University graduate, Sarah earned her MSc and PhD in neuroscience before moving to Australia, where she conducted five years of postdoctoral research on spinal cord injury. She then founded Think Brain, an online platform providing professional development in applied neuroscience and brain health. Sarah took to the screen in 2019, presenting an ABC Catalyst episode on the intricacies of brain health, biohacking, and longevity. Her 2015 TEDx talk espoused the virtues of afternoon naps! Sarah is the author of three books on brain health focusing on women's health across the lifespan. 1. The Women's Brain Book: The neuroscience of health, hormones, and happiness (published by Hachette in 2018) 2. Baby Brain: The surprising neuroscience of how pregnancy and motherhood sculpt our brains and change our minds (for the better) (published by Hachette in 2023) 3. Brain Health For Dummies (published by Wiley for the iconic 'For Dummies Brain in 2025) 4. A second edition of The Women's Brain Book is due in July 2025. Sarah been featured in quoted in the Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, Grazia, Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, Australian Women’s Weekly, Body & Soul, and can be seen and heard ‘explaining the brain’ on SBS Insight, ABC Radio National, Mamamia, NZ Radio National, ABC Catalyst, and on stage at Business Chicks, Canberra Writers’ Festival, Manly Writers' Festival, and Happiness and Its Causes. Sarah lives on Sydney’s Northern Beaches with her Irish husband, and together they are raising two teenage sons and one springer spaniel. They can be found surfing, sailing, and ocean swimming.
