Jennifer R. Farmer, pka “The PR Whisperer,” is an entrepreneur, author, and host of United Methodist Women's Faith Talks podcast. She is the founder of Spotlight PR LLC, a boutique firm serving leaders and groups committed to social and racial justice. For over 17 years, Jennifer has made her mark in social justice movements, holding a range of senior leadership positions with national racial justice, labor and faith-based groups. She is an active writer, penning monthly columns on leadership, race, gender and faith. Her essays have also been published in the Chronicle of Philanthropy, CNN, HuffPost, The Root, Society for Nonprofits and more. Farmer’s debut book, “Extraordinary PR, Ordinary Budget: A Strategy Guide” was published by Berrett-Koehler in June 2017. Her second book, “First and Only: A Black Woman's Guide to Thriving at Work and in Life,” was published by Broadleaf Books in Feb. 2021. Through Spotlight PR, Farmer represents a host of high-profile clients including former Ohio State Sen. Nina Turner; the Black Women's Leadership Project; activist, Grammy award-winning rapper and businessman Michael Render, pka Killer Mike, who is host of the Netflix show, “Trigger Warning with Killer Mike” and one half of the rap duo Run the Jewels. Other current and former clients include the Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II, Jabari Graham of Art, Beats and Lyrics, Funders’ Collaborative for Youth Organizing, United Methodist Women, and the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice.
