For the past twenty years, Kay Danes has worked in the security, social justice and humanitarian sectors across the Middle-east, Afghanistan and South-east Asia. She has addressed a number of US Congressional forums on democracy, development and policy issues affecting vulnerable communities. She has also presented at the US Conference on World Affairs bringing much needed attention to the plight of political prisoners, enforced disappearances and torture. In 2014, Kay was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for her social justice and human rights work. Kay has risked her life on numerous occasions in order to bring critical aid to vulnerable communities in conflict zones. Her work in Afghanistan is recognised by Australian and Foreign officials. Kay says her greatest achievement is being able to share her Post Traumatic Stress Recovery with members of the general public and the Australian Defence Force, which Defence recorded in an ‘in-house training DVD' shown to all soldiers deploying to conflict zones. Kay is also a Paul Harris Fellow and Consultant for Rotary International (PHF) Kay is an honorary member of the Golden Key International Honorary Society which is the world’s largest collegiate honour society. Honorary Membership is bestowed upon those who exemplify the qualities and values of Golden Key; the pillars of academics, leadership and/or service. Kay Danes has a Master of Human Rights degree with High Distinctions from Curtin University (WA).
