Marnie Riches grew up on a rough estate in north Manchester. Exchanging the spires of nearby Strangeways prison for those of Cambridge University, she gained a Masters in German & Dutch. She has been a punk, a trainee rock star, a pretend artist and professional fundraiser.
Her best-selling, award-winning George McKenzie crime thrillers, tackling the subject of trans-national trafficking, were inspired by her own time spent in The Netherlands. Marnie is also the author of 'Born Bad' and 'The Cover-Up' - the critically acclaimed books in her Manchester gangland series - as well as 'Tightrope' and 'Backlash', which feature beleaguered PI, Bev Saunders and computer-whizz sidekick, Doc, who bring to light the criminal misdemeanours of the Northwest's great and good.
'All the Pretty Ones' is the first story in Marnie's new DS Jackson Cooke police procedural series, where determined Jackie must balance the demands of being a mother with the hunt for a warped serial killer, who preys on the region's most vulnerable citizens. 'The Silent Dead' is the follow-up, where Jackie must navigate the worlds of incel forums and online dating to find a killer who has his sights on single mothers - just like her!
When she isn’t writing gritty, twisty crime-thrillers, Marnie is a Royal Literary Fund Fellow, teaching at Cambridge University's postgraduate researcher unit and also tutors the Faber Novel Writing Course. Marnie writes historical sagas under the pseudonym of Maggie Campbell.
