Michael Hirsh was a combat correspondent with the 25th Infantry Division at Cu Chi, Vietnam, in 1966, where he earned the CIB. His most recent book, written with Air Force Lt. Col Brian Slade, is Cleared Hot, about an Apache gunship pilot in Afghanistan. In 2002 he was embedded with Air Force Combat Search and Rescue forces in Operation Enduring Freedom to write None Braver: U.S. Air Force Pararescuemen in the War on Terrorism. He tracked down 150 of the GIs who liberated Nazi concentration and death camps in the final weeks of WW2 to write The Liberators. He also write Michael Schiavo's memoir about the Terri Schiavo case, titled Terri-The Truth. His first book was Pararescue--The True Story of an Incredible Rescue at Sea and the Heroes Who Pulled it Off. Hirsh is a George Foster Peabody Award and Writers Guild Award winner, as well as an Emmy winning documentary producer and investigative reporter. In 2010 he was given the Vietnam Veterans of America "Excellence in the Arts Award." Among the programs he's produced are Making M*A*S*H for PBS, and Memories of M*A*S*H for CBS. For PBS he also produced an investigative documentary about college suicide titled College Can Be Killing, and the first network documentary about teen pregnancy, Guess Who's Pregnant. Also for PBS, a special titled "A Program for Vietnam Veterans--and Everyone Else Who Should Care. Also, Caesar's Writers, the reunion of comic legend Sid Caesar with Carl Reiner, Neil Simon, Larry Gelbart and others. Hirsh lives in Punta Gorda, Florida with his wife, Karen.
