Phyllida Scrivens lives in Norwich, Norfolk. In 2014 she was awarded an MA in Biography at the University of East Anglia. Her debut biography, Escaping Hitler: A Jewish Boy’s Quest for Freedom and His Future, the story of the late Joe Stirling, former Kindertransport refugee whose destiny was to become Sheriff of Norwich, was published by Pen and Sword Books in January 2016 and by Skyhorse Publishing of New York in 2017. Phyllida’s second book was a group biography entitled The Lady Lord Mayors of Norwich 1923-2017 (Pen and Sword Books 2018). In November the book was awarded the Best Biography prize at the East Anglian Book Awards 2018. In September 2021, Pen and Sword published her third biographical history, The Great Thorpe Railway Disaster 1874, Heroes - Victims - Survivors, which not only maps the events of the evening of 10th September 1874, but also reveals the stories behind the 28 who died, previously only recorded as a list. This book has been short-listed for the East Anglian Book Awards 2022, with the results available in January 2023. Phyllida is a seasoned public speaker, giving illustrated presentations on her books and research discoveries to groups throughout Norfolk and beyond.
