Sara Lövestam is a Swedish novelist and linguist. She writes in many genres: historical novels, contemporary novels, suspense, children's books, Y/A and books on Swedish grammar. She has been rewarded with Grand Prix de Littérature Policière (France), Svenska Deckarakademins debutpris (Sweden), Translatorpriset (Sweden), De gouden vleermuis (The Netherlands), Prix nouvelles voix du polar (France) among others. In Sweden, she is known as the linguistic expert in the TV morning show Nyhetsmorgon, and the judge in the Radio game show Lantzkampen. She also writes columns in Språktidningen (The Language Magazine) and the daily newspaper Svenska Dagbladet. Sara Lövestam spent most of her childhood in Uppsala, Östersund, Sigtuna - and 6 months in the small village of Masvingo Bibleschool in Zimbabwe. She always felt like an odd child; her interests differed from other children's, she was always "the new kid", and on top of that she struggled through her teenage years with accepting that she was gay. The experience of having to fight to be herself has influenced the themes of many of her novels. Before making it as a full time writer, Lövestam was a devoted teacher in the Swedish for Immigrants program (SFI). She has a special love for the Greek language and Kiswahili, enjoys doing carpentry in her summer cottage, and bakes more than decent cardamom rolls.
