Critic Reviews

"Lindsay C. Gibson, PsyD, gives practical insight into a prevalent problem.... The book is impeccably clear.... This utter lack of confusion makes the book quite soothing, despite the heavy subject." ( Foreword Magazine)

Very gentle book

A gently written book, quite maternal in its style. So especially if you've struggled with immature parents, this can feel like a wise counsel from a substitute mother. I'd been doing libro therapy for nearly two and half years prior to this, so all of the exercises weren't new to me and some of the 'aha' moments didn't quite happen. And yet, it helped by confirming some of the things I'd observed about my parents and the coping strategies I'd used instinctively. The set of questions to ask oneself when one encounters new people promises to be a good checklist by which to gate-keep who we let into our lives. I look forward to using the strategies going forward.

Interesting

While the book is quite interesting and insightful, it derives predominantly from a Western school of parenting. Would still recommend it, as the insights can be understood in context and readers can evaluate how these would apply to different cultures. The case examples are very helpful and were my favourite parts of the book!
