Story
Tim Wolfe, Bob McClure, and John Brown love writing jokes and using them to make a room full of people laugh. But like every good comic, they have a ton that never leave the notepad. On Running down a bit they each run a new bit or an old bit that was left on the cutting room floor in hopes that riffing on it with their friends could bring a new angle that is the missing piece. If you're a fan of stand up comedy, you're going to love this podcast.

Story
John Brown was an American abolitionist who believed the only way to emancipate the slaves was via violent revolution. Early in October 1859, Brown and a group of his followers seized an armory in Harper’s Ferry, Virginia, with a plan to use the armaments to further their cause. Brown was captured and, two months later, was sentenced to death. During the hearing, Brown made his final speech to the judge and jury; he defended his actions and righteous goal and highlighted the hypocritical justice system of the time.

Story
A traveling tinker, John Bunyan accepted long imprisonment rather than give up preaching the Gospel. He explained the life of the Spirit in language the common people could understand and in pictures that stuck in the mind. When he wrote Pilgrim's Progress, his fame spread rapidly, and within 50 years of his death, the book was reputed to be in most English homes. John Brown's biography of John Bunyan remains the standard, despite the lapse of over 100 years since it was first published. The author was one of Bunyan's successors as minister of the church in Bedford.

Barack Obama campaigned as an antidote to the politics of polarization, promising to transcend the old divides of left and right, black and white, red states and blue. But in the first year of his presidency, he is presiding over an eruption of hate and hyper-partisanship that threatens to mock the promise upon which he was elected.
