Between 1922 and 1923, Katherine Mansfield wrote four volumes of short stories. This recording includes all sixty-three stories from the four collections, including a number of incomplete stories collated after Mansfield’s death.

This collection arguably contains some of the most charming lyrics ever written in English. In Dot and the Kangaroo, five-year-old Dot becomes lost in the Australian bush. Alone and frightened, Dot is approached by a grey kangaroo, who brings her some berries to eat. Dot eats the berries and suddenly finds that she can talk to animals! She tells the kangaroo that she has lost her way. The kangaroo has lost something too—her joey—but decides to help Dot out. Together, they search for home.

In a German Pension (1911) was Katherine Mansfield’s first published collection of short stories. Many of these works had been previously published in the British weekly magazine, The New Age, which also featured work by figures including G. K. Chesterton, H. G. Wells, and George Bernard Shaw. The word “pension" in the title refers to a European guest-house.

The Dove’s Nest and Other Stories is a collection of both finished and unfinished short stories written by Katherine Mansfield. The collection was published posthumously, not long after Mansfield’s death in 1923, by her husband, John Middleton Murry.
