Jeremy, Johnny J, Walker, Sumo and Charlie are about to have the summer of their lives. They've all just finished primary school and are looking forward to weeks of holiday freedom before they head off to their new schools. But they soon realise it's not all going to be riding their bikes, making rope swings in the woods and climbing trees. Johnny's mum is ill, really ill - and Jeremy decides there is only one way to save her.

'Benny glowered at her. Babe by name, but most certainly not by nature'....A summer in the Irish countryside is not Benny Shaw's idea of a good time. Especially since the people of Duncade don't appreciate him as the sporting prodigy that he is. All he gets is teasing, which is a favourite pastime of annoying tomboy Babe Meara. Streetwise Benny has met his match and he doesn't know the rules of this particular game. And when Babe turns from a real pain into a real girl, the trouble well and truly begins.

'In my old school, we had fighting, no pool and there'd be vicious matches against the other schools...I miss all that stuff!' Moving to Africa is the worst thing that has ever happened to Benny Shaw. No one plays hurling (the best game on the planet) and the local school is run by hippies who like to talk about feelings. As if. But when Benny meets wisecracking Omar (the name's Bond, James Bond Omar) who only speaks English in TV catchphrases, he decides that maybe life in this new country can be fun after all.
