Amanda Byram is a world-famous television presenter who began her TV career co-hosting Ireland’s first-ever breakfast show, Ireland AM. Her career in broadcasting has spanned over two decades, including shows such as The Big Breakfast, Total Wipeout, The Swan, Dancing with the Stars, and Food Unwrapped. She is the CEO and owner of the sportswear brand Body by Byram. Amanda has also found time to qualify as a Level 3 personal trainer and extensively study both nutrition coaching and Neuro-Linguistic Programming techniques. Amanda says: In my debut book The Switch: The Secret to Overcoming the Pressures of Perfection and Finding Health and Happiness, I open up about how, as I headed into my forties, I finally managed to ditch decades of destructive dieting and a pressure to be perfect that had consumed me since I was a teenager. At 47 I am in the best shape of my life, both mentally and physically, and in my heartfelt, honest book, I offer ingenious insights and practical advice for women on how they, too, can make the switch to a happier, healthier lifestyle. Full of practical advice, I share how to silence the critical internal voices that hold us back, how to ditch the diets and instead eat and exercise in a way that will give you power not problems, how to boost self-esteem with simple tips on retraining your brain, along with over 40 delicious everyday recipes and relaxation tips. The Switch contains personal stories of my darkest moments – from my physical and mental struggles with eating disorders, feelings of unworthiness, and body image issues to why cancelling a wedding in my late thirties left me suffering from depression. For over two decades, I was trapped in a cycle of yo-yo dieting and self-criticism because I thought that unless I was “perfect” I wouldn’t be happy or worthy. By the time I reached my fortieth birthday, I was mentally and physically exhausted. Something had to change. This book is a distillation of all the simple, yet life-changing techniques I used to help me get off the perfection treadmill once and for all. It took me on a journey of science and psychology, from silencing the crippling and critical voices in my head to understanding how to eat and exercise in a way that gives me power, not problems. Today I am happier and healthier than I ever was in my twenties and thirties because I have a lifestyle where food, fitness, family, friends, and finding time for me are all in sync. I am so excited to share how I got here with women of all ages, from the ladies of my generation to teens and every girl in between.
